It rises up when open – those boards on the side of the stable are horizontal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It hangs absolutely vertical when it is open too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The bottom hinge is offset diagonally and the hinge pin in the gatepost is offset to match. It’s easiest to offset just the bottom hinge because that’s under compression, it never tends to pull away from the gate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Small screws are all that is needed to hold the bottom hinge in place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One arm of the bottom hinge is sawn off to fit. I used an angle grinder, but a hacksaw would work in a few minutes. There are no fixings holding the hinge on this side. The gate’s been hung like this for about ten years, opening at least once a week, and always works perfectly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
